The Whirlpool galaxy

Posted on Posted in Uncategorized

Probably the best looking galaxy in the Spring/Summer sky, the whirlpool galaxy (M51) is a popular target for amateur astronomers like me. It is located in the constellation of Canes Venatici, at a distance of 25 million light years. It’s interaction with the dwarf galaxy NGC 5195 is fascinating and hard to comprehend!!
